Galaxy Exposes Seven In Ten Polymarket Retail Traders Lost Their Bets 💀💸

Wow, most retail traders on Polymarket are straight up bleeding cash rn 🖤 A Galaxy Research study dug into 2.9 million accounts and caught more than 69% finishing below break-even, racking up $338.9 million in total losses 😈

trader behavior deep dive 📉

They pulled the full on-chain history for positions entry prices and payouts, skipping 125429 likely bot accounts that averaged over 50 orders daily since those made up just 4.1% of wallets yet slammed 80.8% of all volume 💸 The median retail account lost around $3 tho some got wrecked for thousands and losses triggered way more churn with 15.2% ghosting after a loss versus only 6.1% after wins 👀
Traders generally came back with smaller bets but eased up less after a win 😂 Specialization hit hard too as 44% dumped over 60% of activity into one topic yet only 28% of specialists profited compared to 30.4% of generalists 🔥 Sports specialists struggled the most while tech and science folks hit 41.2% profitability maybe from actual vibes and knowledge 🕸️
Profit makers placed bigger bets more often and holding time showed zero clear edge anyway the whole thing covered the international platform and tracked wallets not real people so one trader could look like many accounts.

legal drama incoming 💀

Prediction markets like Polymarket are catching heat everywhere with cities and states calling sports contracts straight up gambling Baltimore sued both Polymarket and Kalshi in August for unlicensed sports bets while New York hit the US arm in September over underage trading claims and unlicensed vibes. South Korean cops even opened cases on 26 users with $12.7 million in bets sent 18 to prosecutors and blocked access treating it all as illegal gambling.
