In a July 20 post on X Hussein Zangana the XRP Ledger Foundation director of community told his nearly 57000 followers that account reserves have dropped a lot since the network began. The tweet is embedded here for visibility. 💀
Back in 2012 starting an account needed 1000 XRP in base reserves with Jed McCaleb trimming it to 200 XRP later. Reserves then eased via validator votes landing at the current 1 XRP base plus 0.2 XRP owner reserve per token or up to 32 NFTs. ✨
He had supported prior drops when XRP prices climbed and servers gained power but now draws a hard line against more arbitrary changes. 🔮
“We have to be very careful in arbitrarily lowering reserves” Vet wrote. “There’s a clear reason for its existence and security comes first. The debate should start there.”
Reserves exist to guard resources like storage and memory making mass account creation costly for potential spam or DDoS attempts. 🛡️
This dUNL validator will only back lower reserves if protection stays equal and he rules out raising transaction fees as some suggest to offset the shift.
