Cardano Slays with x402 Support for AI Agent Payments 💸
The Cardano Foundation announced on September 21 that the x402 integration dropped through npm giving devs a fresh way to build applications and AI agents that send and receive ADA or Cardano tokens over HTTP. This move makes Cardano part of the official x402 SDK so an app or agent can pay for an API request without any account setup API keys or checkout nonsense 😈. According to the foundation Cardano specification got merged back in June and engineers built out the client server and facilitator pieces. Working with the Masumi Network team they added Masumi as a transfer method after a full three month review 🦇. Devs can grab the package with npm install @x402/cardano and the demo plus facilitator stay open source while TypeScript leads supported languages with Python coming next 💀. Cardano jumping on the x402 wave comes after Ripple joined the Linux Foundation hosted x402 Foundation in July alongside Coinbase and Circle for protocol work with the XRP Ledger already handling x402 via XRP and RLUSD for agent transactions 👀. Back in August analyst Jamie Coutts clocked x402 settlement volume down 93% from the year start though the seven day average sat around 41800 despite ongoing infrastructure builds for automated payments 💳. Yet right now the x402 site shows 75.41 million transactions and 24.24 million in volume over the past 30 days with 94060 buyers and 22000 sellers lmao.
