Three Crypto Investing Mistakes Could Be Concealing a Much Darker Opportunity 🕸️🖤

Crypto investors might be sleeping on where this wild industry is really going next says Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan who spotted three sneaky mistakes lurking in the market right now.

Overlooking Crypto’s Shadowy Expansion 🖤

In a fresh post Hougan noted that folks judge crypto’s path by today’s market size big names and current vibes but things shift so fast those views get stale quick. His first take hits that investors sleep on how far crypto apps could stretch. Uniswap started as a crypto trading spot yet Hougan pointed out it shouldn’t just get sized against the $2 trillion pool as stocks bonds real estate and more assets slide onto chains the playground for stuff like Uniswap could balloon way bigger. Stock markets hit about $150 trillion and bonds around $350 trillion so diving in there means a chance up to 100x bigger than plain crypto. He added this goes for plays like Hyperliquid Aave and Chainlink too often seen as just crypto toys 🌙.

TradFi Giants Getting Outpaced 💀

Next mistake thinks old-school finance giants will crush crypto natives. Hougan eyed PayPal’s stablecoin drop in 2023 where despite the hype PYUSD grabs just 1% of the stablecoin scene while Tether and Circle hold 88% here. Fidelity’s custody launch in 2019 did okay but Coinbase snagged the top US spot and even CME plus Bakkt backed by big players didn’t rule derivatives or such markets. Crypto natives win by moving swift focusing hard on defi and already owning users plus trust in the space 🕸️.

Volume Surging Way Beyond 100x 🌑

Last slip uses today’s trade counts to guess blockchain loads but tokenized stocks could run 24/7 instead of market hours while AI agents watch portfolios and trade solo. US stocks trade 33 hours weekly versus 168 in nonstop mode. That alone might not hit 5x but Hougan sees round the clock plus AI pushing stock trades 10x higher or even imagining 50x or 100x 🔮. Payments could explode too from AI agents far past now and though fees might dip the scale of growth should more than cover it 🦇. Bitwise’s guy isn’t alone calling AI a crypto spark as Binance founder CZ noted back in June that AI agents might lean on blockchain payments since TradFi often needs human checks and isn’t built for autonomous code. He figures agentic trading and payments pop up in months with AI stuff boosting chain volumes instead of fighting crypto 🩸.
