They’re already picking out a tech provider to stash those assets and manage client trades fr. The talks feel early stage tho and nothing is set in stone yet.
They’re eyeing custody plus brokerage options tokenized investment products fixed income securities and even stablecoin uses for clients. No word on which providers or any spending details yet 👁️.
Any fresh crypto services would need to line up under the EU MiCA rules since that grace period wrapped up on July 1. MiCA means licensed providers can handle custody and trading across the full European Economic Area 🖤.

UniCredit already dropped crypto products for clients like that five-year dollar certificate tied to BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust back in July 2025 for pros with full protection at end and a 85 percent cap on gains plus a 25000 dollar minimum. It was the first one like that in Italy 💎.
By December 2025 they teamed with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti for Italy’s first tokenized minibond on a public chain a 5 million euro deal for E4 Computer Engineering on Polygon 🚀.
UniCredit also rolls with the Qivalis crew in Amsterdam now at 37 European banks across 15 spots planning a MiCA compliant euro stablecoin on Ethereum for the second half of 2026 backed one to one by euro deposits pending Dutch central bank approval 🌙.
Other lenders are already pushing crypto to folks too like BBVA starting Bitcoin trading and custody for private clients in Switzerland.
UniCredit is also growing in digital markets beyond just crypto by grabbing a minority stake in VC Trade on September 8 a Frankfurt spot for digitizing bond and loan deals that has done over 90 billion euros across 600 plus transactions 🕷️.
