CryptoRank data reveals total trading volume across major prediction venues climbing fast throughout June from $65 million on June 1 to $340 million on June 8 just days before the World Cup began. A week later on June 15 the volume jumped to $2.2 billion after 15 matches including the USAβs memorable 4-1 win over Paraguay in Los Angeles.
By June 22 when 42 games had been played trading volume hit a high of $5.6 billion before easing slightly to $5.4 billion on June 29.
The firm posted this update on X here noting Kalshi drove much of the June activity with open interest at $1.84 billion of which roughly $1.45 billion sat on Kalshi while Polymarket held about $390 million.
Open interest stayed stable on Kalshi near $1 billion during the prior week while Polymarket peaked at $475 million on June 30 the day Norway Sweden and the Netherlands exited dramatically.
BitMart highlighted similar trends on its platform here and noted research projections for global prediction market volume reaching $10 billion with most traffic flowing to centralized platforms due to easier entry than on-chain options that require private keys gas fees and contract approvals.
The CEX reported its monthly prediction market volumes rising 1500% from May once the World Cup started alongside active users growing 4.6 times and completed orders increasing nearly 9 times.
Nearly 44% of new users placed their first trade via prediction markets with football markets drawing them in before some branched into crypto price predictions.

A recent dispute also surfaced where a user accused Polymarket of altering rules on a market tied to MicroStrategyβs Bitcoin sale which raised questions around resolving contested outcomes.
