That spark burned out fast after December leaving volumes quiet for most of 2026. The chart lists the seven-day average near $41,800 while the latest daily mark sits around $28,400 🕸️.
Broader trends echo the same chill with x402 volume sliding 55% over three months and 93% year-to-date. The one-year view still shows a 358 times gain only because everything started from near zero 🦇.
Coutts called the figures a reality check against claims the agentic scene has fully landed yet he sees the lull as temporary. Agent moves should pick up once harness usage ramps in Q4.
His view links partly to Cloudflare’s July 1 launch of the Monetization Gateway letting users bill for pages APIs datasets and MCP tools. The tool routes stablecoin payouts via x402 and handles edge counting plus settlement.
Infrastructure Still Blooms While Usage Lags Behind 🌙
Quiet settlement stats sit against multiple machine-to-machine payment upgrades. On July 14 Ripple joined the fresh x402 Foundation at the Linux Foundation as a top member with other crypto names guiding the Coinbase protocol.
