Bitcoin is getting dragged into this whole risk-off chaos rn as AI credit drama collides with yet another oil price surge and both are hitting right before the next FOMC meeting.
AI Credit Drama Spilling Over Into BTC 🖤
A fresh QCP report drops that BTC is still acting like a total risk asset while the latest Middle East heat has pushed Brent past $110 and messed up the inflation plus Fed outlook big time. CoreWeave’s five-year CDS is sitting at around 1,128 basis points which is over three times Oracle’s 30 bps and that screams markets are freaking about the AI buildout debt load. The stress is leaking way beyond just one firm tho. QCP’s market note said CoreWeave dipped 10% on October 10 as folks started rethinking capital costs and debt vibes across the whole neocloud crew. That repricing is now bleeding into equities and crypto while longer US Treasuries are getting all the safe haven love. The equity smackdown has been straight violent with South Korea’s KOSPI crashing over 14% in one week mid-month which was its worst five-day run since 2008. Chip stocks got absolutely hammered by these AI financing fears and foreign dumping. Sadly for the BTC bulls the coin is still glued to that weakness and hasn’t broken free into some independent safe haven role.
Oil Prices Spiking Again 🔥
QCP’s macro note flags that tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz looks super distorted with only three AIS vessels spotted on October 20. Even adding in the dark ships the real flows are probably 3.7 million to 13 million barrels a day. Physical supply has bounced back a lot but the weird disconnect is keeping prices climbing hard. Brent crude tapped $114 per barrel on Friday which is the highest since May 5 after fresh Houthi strikes on Saudi stuff brought back supply shock nightmares. Reuters reported that Middle East crude exports are actually above pre-war levels yet shipping costs insurance and geopolitical risk are still insane. Freight for a two-million-barrel tanker from the Middle East to China is running around $1.4 million per day more than 12 times pre-war numbers. All this piles up into a real headache for Bitcoin since high energy costs and AI credit stress can keep inflation sticky and block aggressive Fed easing. On the bright side market bets on an October rate hike are basically zero now but experts aren’t calling for cuts anytime soon either.
